Ingredient tips for French dipping
- bread French dip is the best French roll. I like a crusty roll with a little chewing and it softens when it dips without crashing. Any thick bread can be dipped in au jus.
- beef For this French dip recipe, the best meat is Chuck or Rump Roast. Cook the beef very slowly and then pull it into large chunks instead of cutting. As long as it is stewed (brown with liquid and cooked, it will be very tender and perfect for French dipping!
- au jus This is the juice in a slow cooker for dipping. Add lots of onions and rosemary sprigs to prepare for flavor.
- cheese I don’t usually add cheese to this sandwich. If you want to add cheese, Provolone is a great choice!

I like to mix the smallest corn starch with water into a slow cooker while the meat is still. Jus shouldn’t be thicker like gravy, but a little cornstarch will add a little body to Jus.
There should be a lot of delicious juice in the slow cooker. Once chopped or chopped, you can add the beef back to the juice to keep it warm. This is a great way to serve the crowd.
Don’t forget to serve it with savory coleslaw or some oven-baked fries to complete the meal.
