Rich, hearty, full of flavor – This homemade pasta sauce recipe will make Nona proud. A butter sauce that slows down the effect and enjoys a rich and salty flavor. Place it on the pasta or bake it into lasagna.

Ingredient tips for pasta sauce

  • Meat: I use ground beef in this recipe and mix in my own seasoning. Half of the meat can be replaced with Italian sausage.
  • tomato: Tomatoes are the basis of this sauce, I recommend a high quality brand, I like San Masano style tomatoes.
  • sugar: Pinching sugar will balance the acidity of the tomatoes. Or, instead of sugar, add half of the carrots to the sauce.
  • Seasoning: In addition to the meat seasoning above, the sauce adds dry Italian seasoning. If you add fresh herbs, you should add them at the end of cooking so that they don’t cook.

Variations: Add sautéed mushrooms and onions, or some chopped zucchini, chopped spinach or kale in step 3 for added nutrition.

The great thing about this ground beef pasta sauce is that it has a wide range of uses and the last minute meal is a working day.

In addition to covering a bunch of spaghetti, use pasta sauce as meatballs, lasagna, mix it with rice to stuff chili, or make a casserole with vegetables and cheese.

Store leftovers

The remaining homemade pasta sauce can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freeze portions of the zipper bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 months or melt overnight on medium heat on stovetop.

Ground beef pasta sauce

This homemade pasta sauce is a rich and savory minced meat, tomatoes, fresh herbs and spices cooked perfectly for a hearty meal.

  • In a medium bowl, mix ground beef with sage, fennel seeds, thyme, pepper and spice until well combined.

  • Heat a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef mixture, onion and garlic and break down the meat with a spoon. Cook until brown and expel excess fat if necessary.

  • Add canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, green bell peppers, water, Italian seasoning, Bayleaf, sugar and salt to the pot. Stir well to combine.

  • Bring the mixture to a boil. Lower the heat and find it for 1 hour, or until the sauce reaches the desired consistency. Stir occasionally.

  • Once the sauce has thickened, add chopped parsley and basil.

  • Remove the bay leaves, taste and season with extra salt and pepper. Serve hot pasta.

Meat seasoning: I added seasonings similar to sausage seasonings to the meat. If priority, replace half of the beef with Italian sausage, and you can skip the meat-spiced mixture.
tomato: While any type of canned tomatoes works well in this recipe, I Love Saint The bright flavor of Marzano tomatoes. If using whole tomatoes, break them down by hand when adding them to the sauce.
The remaining pasta sauce can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freeze the cooling portion in the zipper bag for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator, or frozen frozen on the stovetop over medium heat.
