I found that macaroni noodles are one of the most comfortable pasta shapes – it’s perfect for everything from soup to mac and cheese and of course the classic macaroni salad recipe.

  • pasta: I use elbow macaroni, but any short pasta can be used. Try ditialini, small shells or mini falfal (bow tie).
  • Red onion: Onions add flavor, making sure they are diced so that they don’t overwhelm other flavors. To give it a milder flavor, either soak the diced onions in cold water or soak the green onions in place.
  • load: Celery, red bell pepper and chopped carrots add freshness and crunch.

Seasoning for macaroni salad

  • mayonnaise: Mayonnaise is the creamy base of this macaroni salad recipe.
  • Tang: White vinegar or apple cider vinegar adds a bright, rich flavor.
  • Sweetness: A little sugar and a tablespoon of sweet pickles in the sweet vinegar.

  • dressing: Replace homemade seasonings with prepared coleslaw dressings. Make it lighter by replacing half of half

  • In a large pot, cook elbow macaroni in salted water according to the instructions on the package. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking.

  • To make dressings, In a large bowl, mix together mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, vegetable, mustard, salt and pepper. Mix well.

  • Add clean macaroni, celery, carrots, red peppers and onions. Very good tossing. Taste as needed and add extra salt and pepper.

  • Refrigerate the macaroni salad for at least 1 hour before serving.

*You will need 2 to 2 ½ Cup of additives. Use the list above as a basic macaroni salad, or change it to your preference. Other favorite attachments include pickles, olives, ham, sweet peas and cheddar.

  • The elbow can be replaced with Ditalini, small shells or truck wheels.
  • Insert the add-in about the size of the macaroni.
  • Drain the pasta to stop it from cooking.
  • Mix the seasoning directly into the salad bowl and add other ingredients to wash the dishes less.
  • Store the remaining leftovers in a covered container for up to 4 days.
