Nerd Ice Cream – Red Meal in the Kitchen

Fresh and creamy strawberry ice cream are sprinkled with whole nerd candy to create this super fun nerd ice cream, a totally irresistible kids and adult favorite.

Not long ago, I was immediately interested in it when I stumbled upon a question about nerdy ice cream. Nerd candy? I don’t think I’ve eaten any nerds since middle school – at least I don’t think I can remember. Well, I’m so glad to tell you that I’m once again hooked on these crunchy, sweet and sour candy candies. I can’t stop snacking now!
And, if you haven’t had nerdy candy since childhood, it’s time to change it. (Also – don’t buy it from that link, I only provide it for the visual assistant. Just buy a box of candy from the grocery store.)

Apparently, there were grape-flavored ice cream and nerdy candies. Side note – It turns out that there is a controversy about what the flavor of ice cream is actually, but the ice cream is a dark purple color.
So I tried a few different ideas to solve grape ice cream, well, we can say you can thank me for avoiding it for you. If I nailed that, I’ll tell you.

Then I tried adding nerd candy to the best vanilla ice cream ever. That was so good, my husband and the boys loved it. But this is not “wow” me.
Finally, I decided to add some nerds to a batch of old-fashioned strawberry ice cream. oh. mine. word. This is really awesome!
There is a bright and fresh strawberry flavor in the ice cream, which pairs perfectly with the strawberry flavor of nerd candy. I found myself making this batch of ice cream and I found myself repeatedly returning to the fridge – just to “test” the flavor again.

You will need the following ingredients to make this ice cream:
- 1½ cups fresh strawberries, prune about 8 large berries
- ⅔ cup of sugar
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup of whole milk
- 1 cup heavy duty cream
- 5 oz Nerd Candy (Grape and Strawberry Combo is my favorite ice cream)

Mix strawberries, sugar, salt, vanilla and milk in a blender. Mix until smooth. Add a combination of cream and pulse. Pour the mixture into the ice cream manufacturer and process according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
When the ice cream is almost done stirring, pour the candy into the mixture. Eat the software ice cream immediately or transfer to an airtight container and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
