How to make the best black bean dipping sauce

If you like me and love bean dipping sauce, this recipe is something to try. We also have classic hummus, red pepper hummus and this simple cheesy bean dip for you to check out. The secret to this creamy dip is cooked onions. Actually, the recipe begins, just like the classic onion dip starts. We cook the sweet onions with some oil until wilted and tastes sweet.

When the onions are cooked we mix them with spices, sour cream, a little water and black beans (you can use canned or home-cooked black beans). I used a food processor in the photo below, but the blender would solve the problem.

You can immediately dip in dipping sauce or pour it into a baking dish with some cheese on top and bake for a warm and cheesy dip.

Most of the time, we dip this black bean into crumbs or warm pita wedges, but we can also use sandwiches and even use them as tacos. I even poured it over the top of the rice and put a shift rice bowl.

Make 8 servings

You will need

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 cups chopped onions (1 medium)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon chili powder, see our chili powder recipe

1/8 tsp to 1/4 tsp chili

2 (15 oz) cans of black beans, drained and rinsed (3 cups cooked black beans)

1/2 cup sour cream

2 to 3 tablespoons of water

Fresh lime

Salt and fresh black pepper

1/3 cup chopped cheese, optional baking dip

direction

1Add oil, onion and 1/4 teaspoon salt to a skillet over medium heat. Cook the onions until they are very soft and smell very fragrant, 15 to 20 minutes. Stir in garlic powder, cumin, chili powder and chili. Remove from the heat and let stand for 5 minutes.

2In a blender or food processor, mix cooked onions, drained black beans and sour cream together. Add 2 tablespoons of water and mix. If the mixture is having trouble mixing and fusion, add another tablespoon or two of water to help it.

3Taste and season with salt and lime. Baked black bean dip below or follow the instructions.

4To bake the dip, dip the beans into a small baking dish and top with chopped cheese. Bake the 350°C Fahrenheit oven until dip in soaking and the cheese melts on top, about 10 minutes.

Adam and Joanne’s Tips

  • Vegetarian modification: omit sour cream and add about one tablespoon of water. The dip sauce is still delicious. You can also use plant-based sour cream or cream cheese instead of sour cream.
